Day 293
So the boy brought back the new camera (a small Kodak EasyShare we found for $100 at Wal-Mart) from Philmont with a little dirt in it, a few scratches on the back display, a nick in the paint here & there. But, I have appropriated it, as the specs on it are about 100X better than my 6-year-old Nikon (ISO alone makes my Nikon cry). So today's photo was about playing with the landscape mode. Sadly, I didn't discover this until after dark, so I couldn't play with it outside where it might have been cooler than my dining room. Sweet!

Day 292
After ten days on the trail, sleeping in tents and skipping hot showers, it's good to be home (and I'm thrilled that he's safe & sound after his adventure!).

Day 290
The only thing worse than a lazy cat is a lazy cat who openly flaunts it. Sad thing is, she's really good at hula hoops when she tries...

Day 288
Today was a long and tiring day, considering it started at midnight with a nice little 15-mile run. But, the highlight of the day for me ended up being a great family movie date with Ben.

Day 287
Our long-time friends had their annual Christmas-in-July party for their boys today, complete with the traditional waterslide in the back yard. The cake, gifts and adults are all superfluous, really, as all that really matters is the waterslide. Hours and hours of waterslide!

Day 286
Art show today! Ben, as usual, did a GREAT job on his projects during art camp, and was very proudly showing them off during the end-of-camp art show. We're so lucky to have such a talented boy!

Day 284
It's hot in Texas in the summer. About the only thing that survives in these conditions are these crepe myrtles - and they are everywhere. These are my favorite color, although they come in about six colors and a billion different sizes.

Day 283
First-place Texas Rangers. If you call the main line at the Texas Rangers Baseball Club right now, that's how they answer the phone. Do it, quick, before the end of July. Certainly before the end of August, when the annual descent into mediocrity is sure to happen. If it doesn't this year, none will be more pleasantly surprised than me!

Day 282
Art camp started today, which means six hours a day of drawing, sketching, painting, molding, sculpting & otherwise being a creative spirit. Can't wait for Friday to see all finished projects.

Day 281
Mom went home today. I wanted her to stay longer, as long as she could. But it was time; she wanted to go, and she wanted to take the bus. Deep sigh.

Day 280
Boy Scout Troop 615 left for a 10-day trek at Philmont Scout Ranch this morning. There was a lot of excitement and anticipation at the airport, but this one, he stayed cool all morning. Of course, he'd been up since 2:15, so he may just have been exhausted already!! Have fun, boys!!

Day 279
I realized this afternoon that I haven't taken any photographs of my mom with the boys since she's been here visiting the last week. Since Sandro leaves for his Scout trek early tomorrow, tonight was the only chance we had to get a snapshot of the three of them together.

Day 277
Post-run dinner was a black bean taco and a chicken fajita taco. I might have been so hungry that I finished it before I actually pulled out of the drive-through. Maybe. You'll never know...

Day 276
Brotherly love... ok, brotherly tolerance. They got into a fight on the way home from speedskating so I made them sit next to each other & smile when we got home.

Day 275
Drove out to Cedar Hill tonight & was rewarded with this view on the drive home. Another gorgeous Texas sunset!

Day 273
Ben-jamming helped us clean up the garage some, found Sandro's floppy campout hat in a box & decided to appropriate it for himself. I think he wears it well, don't you?

Day 272
Made a quick road trip south to bring my mom up for a visit, and we stopped at the Collin Street Bakery in Waco on the way back. Their chicken salad on pecan bread is delicious as always, but this, this is worth the trip!!

Day 270
It's just about a week before Troop 615 leaves for their big summer trek at Philmont Scout Ranch, so the boys had their final pack check tonight. They've been preparing for almost a year so it's exciting to have it be right around the corner.

Day 268
After a lazy 4th of July yesterday, we had another lazy day today, enjoying the 3-day weekend. Only thing that had to get done today was a haircut for the boy, who needs to have it short for his upcoming Scout trek. It's been a very long time since his hair has been this short, and it's kind of strange to be able to see his eyes again!!

Day 267
This post has nothing to do with the Fourth of July, Independence Day, or America's Freedom. It has everything to do with an awesome run I had this morning out on the Trinity Trails and the feeling I had when I was done with 9 hot, sweaty miles. I usually hate photos of myself, but this one? This one I like. Because when things get tough in my training over the next 18 weeks, if I can remember how I felt when I took this picture and just get it done anyway, I will be SO READY for the New York City marathon.

Day 266
Hardest part of Pedicure Day is choosing the perfect color. Today I went with OPI's "A Good Mandarin is Hard to Find."

Day 264
Yes, I know... another picture of the crazy cat. But at least she is sufficiently wired today - check out the pupils on her! She was kind of freaked out & talking to the ghoulies in the ceiling, and this was the first time I was able to capture her special kind of spazziness!
